This appropriation is intended to achieve the provision of information and technical advice on energy and resources.

Reasons for Change in Appropriation

This appropriation decreased by $200,000 to $819,000 for 2014/15 as a result of a transfer to the Energy and Resources Operational Policy, Ministerial Servicing and Crown Entity Monitoring appropriation to accurately reflect the use of resources in that appropriation.

This appropriation is limited to the development of operational policies in relation to the operation of energy and resource markets (electricity, oil, gas, geothermal, coal, minerals and natural related resources) and energy efficiency and conservation issues, services to support the Minister, and monitoring the performance and compliance of Crown Entities.

What is Intended to be Achieved with this Appropriation

This appropriation is intended to achieve the provision of effective and efficient ministerial services, and the monitoring of the performance and compliance of Crown entities.

Reasons for Change in Appropriation

This appropriation increased by $750,000 to $2.226 million for 2014/15 as a result of transfers from the Energy and Resource Information Services and Policy Advice - Energy and Resource Issues appropriations, to accurately reflect the use of resources in this appropriation.

Management of the Crown Mineral Estate (M28)

Scope of Appropriation

Allocation and management of Crown-owned petroleum, coal and mineral resources under the Crown Minerals Act 1991 and minerals programmes issued under the Act.

What is Intended to be Achieved with this Appropriation

This appropriation is intended to achieve competition in, reliable supply by, and the efficient operation of the electricity industry for the long term benefit of consumers.

Reasons for Change in Appropriation

The appropriation has decreased by $500,000 to $72.899 million for 2014/15 is due to the transfer of this amount to 2015/16 so that it aligns with the spending profile agreed to at Budget 2014.

Implementation of the Home Insulation Programme (M28)

How Performance will be Assessed and End of Year Reporting Requirements

An exemption was granted under s15D(2)(b)(iii) of the Public Finance Act as the amount of the annual appropriation for a non-departmental other expense is less than $5 million.

Reasons for Change in Appropriation

This appropriation increased by $1.412 million for 2014/15. This is a result of a transfer of $3.290 million from 2013/14 to provide additional flexibility for the completion of this project. Solid Energy's consideration of stage 2 of the project has resulted in delays to the completion of key milestones. This increase is partially offset by a $1.878 million transfer to the newly established The Pike River Mine Site appropriation, to assist with proposals that will address the management of the Pike River Mine Site and commemoration of the deceased and the collective interests of their families.
