Scope of Appropriation

This appropriation is limited to the provision of advice (including second opinion advice and contributions to policy advice led by other agencies) to support decision-making by Ministers on government policy matters.

Reasons for Change in Appropriation

This appropriation decreased as a result of a retention of underspend of $150,000 transferred to 2013/14 and a fiscally neutral adjustment (FNA) of $200,000 to departmental output expense Measurement and Product Safety, Compliance and Enforcement to reflect the change in the Ministry's allocation methodology.

This was partially offset by a retention of underspend of $24,000 transferred from 2011/12.

Scope of Appropriation

Measurement and Product Safety Compliance and Enforcement
This appropriation is limited to compliance and enforcement activities to ensure a supportive measurement and product safety infrastructure for business and consumers.
Policy Advice and Information on Consumer Issues
This appropriation is limited to the provision of policy advice (including providing a consumer perspective) information and Ministerial servicing on issues, policies and programmes affecting the ability of consumers to transact with confidence.

Explanation for Use of Multi-Class Output Expense Appropriation

Both output classes contribute to the outcome of creating an environment in which consumers can transact with confidence.

Reasons for Change in Appropriation

This appropriation increased as a result of an FNA of $200,000 from departmental output expense Policy Advice - Consumer Issues appropriation to reflect the change in the Ministry's allocation methodology and a retention of underspend of $3,000 from 2011/12.
