The New Zealand Activity Index (NZAC) has been discontinued. It was produced in response to a need for timely data on impact of COVID-19 on the economy in 2020 and 2021.
The NZAC summarised several high-frequency (mostly monthly) indicators of economic activity, including consumer spending, unemployment, job vacancies, traffic volumes, electricity grid demand, business outlook, and manufacturing activity. It was intended to provide a high-frequency read on fast-moving developments in broad economic activity.
The NZAC was published monthly, at approximately mid-month, as part of the Treasury's Weekly Economic Updates (2020-2021).
NZAC releases
The Treasury released news items highlighting the key New Zealand activity index updates each month between June 2020 and December 2021.
