The Treasury – Te Tai Ōhanga held a consultation on the proposed scope of the upcoming Long-term Insights Briefing (LTIB) in July 2024. This consultation is now closed. A summary of feedback received will be published in August 2024.
Consultation opens today on the Treasury’s draft topic for its upcoming 2025 Long-term Insights Briefing, a stewardship report on the medium- to long-term risks, trends, and opportunities that affect New Zealand.
“The Long-term Insights Briefing is an important stewardship document that helps the Treasury, the Minister of Finance, and New Zealand understand the long-term trends that affect New Zealand” Treasury Secretary Caralee McLiesh said. “We are aiming to deliver a Briefing that informs and promotes public debate on the trends that will impact on New Zealand’s future public services, public assets, living standards, and the options available to meet these challenges.
“We are seeking New Zealanders’ feedback on the proposed scope of the upcoming Briefing, including on potential changes to the proposed work that will support answering our overarching topic question, and relevant material we should consider in our analysis."
The overarching proposed topic for the Long-term Insights Briefing is how we can ensure that fiscal policy remains sustainable and resilient over the economic cycle. A consultation document and information on how to make a submission can be found at Consultation on the Scope of the Treasury's Long-term Insights Briefing - Sustainable and Resilient Fiscal Policy Over Economic Cycles. Submissions close on Friday 26 July 2024.
The Treasury will seek further feedback on the first draft of the Long-term Insights Briefing in early 2025, before finalising and publishing the Briefing in mid-2025.
