Philip Combes has been appointed to the position of Treasurer of the New Zealand Debt Management Office, Secretary to the Treasury Alan Bollard announced today.
Mr Combes has moved to New Zealand after having been the Chief Executive Officer of the Tasmanian Public Finance Corporation (Tascorp) for the last few years. Tascorp is the central borrowing authority for the state of Tasmania. Prior to this, he was Director, Budget and Finance for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (South Australia), and worked for the South Australian Government Financing Authority (SAFA) from 1986 to 1994. He has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with Honours in Economics from the University of Tasmania.
Mr Combes replaces former Treasurer Phillip Anderson, who is to take up the position of Principal Financial Advisor with the World Bank in Washington.
"We're extremely pleased to welcome Philip to the New Zealand Debt Management Office," said Dr Bollard.
Mr Combes will take up the position in early June.
