Modelling and data tool

Income Explorer

The Income Explorer is a tool that allows users to explore the relationship between gross income and net income due to New Zealand's tax and welfare policies.

It calculates various measures of work incentives for a theoretical family, including net income, effective marginal tax rates (EMTRs), replacement rates (RRs), and participation tax rates (PTRs).

The Treasury's aim in releasing this tool and the Distribution Explorer is to promote transparency, facilitate research, and enhance understanding of income distribution and New Zealand's tax and transfer system.
