Improving performance information in the Estimates: Prompts for agencies’ 2025/26 Estimates and 2024/25 Supplementary Estimates#
The Treasury has developed these Prompts to support continuous improvement in the quality of performance reporting to Parliament and the public in the Supporting Information for the Estimates.
These Prompts are designed to:
- support relatively straightforward improvements agencies can make for their Estimates performance information ahead of their presentation alongside Budget 2025 and
- identify items that could be added to an agency’s work programme to support improvement for the 2026/27 Estimates.
The Prompts focus on changes that will help make the performance information more meaningful, and make initiatives and programmes within appropriations more traceable.
The four prompts are:
- remove less meaningful indicators
- consider where qualitative information could provide more meaningful information
- ensure the performance information covers the key areas of work within the appropriation
- ensure new and existing initiatives are clearly traceable.
