A research study Economic Risks and Opportunities from the Release of Genetically Modified Organisms in New Zealand has been released by the Minister for the Environment, Hon Marian Hobbs on the Ministry for the Environment website.

The research study is part of the Government's package of measures in response to the 2001 report of the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification. The research examines the economic risks and opportunities associated with the release of three different types of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in New Zealand, as well as of New Zealand forgoing GMO releases.
