The Distribution Explorer is a tool that allows users to explore the income distribution of households, families and individuals in New Zealand, using outputs created by the Treasury's Tax and Welfare Analysis (TAWA) model.
The tool allows users to explore the income distribution of the population as a whole and to compare distributions across different subgroups. Subgroups in the tool can be based on factors like age, family or household structure, and benefit, superannuation, and tax credit recipient status. The tool also allows users to view how the components of income vary over the income distribution.
The Treasury's aim in releasing this tool and the Income Explorer is to promote transparency, facilitate research, and enhance understanding of income distribution and New Zealand's tax and transfer system.
