As required under the Public Finance Act, the Treasury will publish the audited Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand on Thursday 13 October 2016.
Interested journalists and analysts are invited to register their interest to attend an embargoed briefing under lock-up conditions which will be held on Level 5 at the Treasury, 1 The Terrace, Wellington.
The lock-up will be held from 11.00am until 1.00pm on 13 October. Doors open at 10.30am.
Finance Minister Hon Bill English is expected to give a presentation at midday, before opening the floor to questions. The Minister will be accompanied by the Secretary to the Treasury, Gabriel Makhlouf.
As in previous years, priority for seats at the lock-up will be given to national and international media organisations and to economic and financial analysts attached to either financial institutions or national organisations that provide relevant specialist advisory services. Registration of interest to attend is an acknowledgement of accepting embargo provisions. Note that the Financial Statements will also be published on the Treasury website at or shortly after 1.00pm on the day.
Lock-up terms and conditions
Attendance at this event is by invitation only and is limited by available space.
Registered journalists and analysts are free to arrive at any time after the doors open at 10.30am. Please note that once documents are distributed, however, attendees will not be permitted to exit until the embargo is lifted at 1pm.
By registering to attend, you agree to respect the rules of the lock-up. These rules apply to all analysts, journalists, camera crew, technicians or anyone attending the lock-up who is not a staff member of the Treasury.
- No information may be released or transmitted from the lock-up until the embargo has been lifted at 1pm on Thursday 13 October 2016.
- Communication devices or services should be disconnected or switched off during the lock-up.
- For the convenience of others, mobile phones should be on silent mode or switched off. Cell phones should not be used to receive or transmit any voice, text, images or data from within the lock up until after the lifting of the embargo.
- If there is an emergency such as a fire alarm, please follow the instructions of Treasury staff. In the unlikely event that the building needs to be evacuated prior to 1.00pm, the embargo will not be lifted. People will be directed to leave immediately but they will not be allowed to transmit or communicate embargoed information.
- Compliance with the embargo provisions is a serious matter. Any organisation or individual found to breach the embargo provisions may find that s/he and the organisation that s/he represents will be declined permission to attend future lock-ups hosted by the Treasury.
- Camera crew: If your news organisation requires camera crew and equipment at the lock-up, please indicate that with your RSVP.
- Note that the FSGNZ 2015/16 will be available on the Treasury website at or shortly after 1pm on Thursday 13 October 2016 at: http://www.treasury.govt.nz/government/financialstatements/yearend
