The Government’s vision is to enable a public sector that is focused on improving the wellbeing of current and future New Zealanders.
This includes transforming the Public Finance System and the underlying legislation to enable a public service that positively assists and improves intergenerational wellbeing.
To support this vision, the Government proposes making the following changes to the Public Finance Act 1989 during the current parliamentary term:
- Embedding a focus on wellbeing
- Establishing an Independent Fiscal Institution as part of New Zealand’s fiscal policy framework
