National Infrastructure Funding and Financing Limited* (NIFFCo) was originally established as Crown Fibre Holdings Limited to manage the Government’s $1.7 billion investment in ultra-fast broadband infrastructure.
In 2017, Crown Fibre Holdings Limited became Crown Infrastructure Partners Limited (CIP). CIP was given additional responsibilities which include investigating and implementing commercial models to achieve the Government’s objectives including connectivity, water, transport, flood protection, community facilities and social infrastructure. CIP finances transactions under the Infrastructure Funding and Financing Act and manages several Government infrastructure funds including the Cyclone Recovery, Infrastructure Reference Group, Rural Drinking Water and various connectivity related funds such as Marae Digital Connectivity and Rural Broadband and Mobile fund.
As part of the infrastructure system reform CIP was repurposed to NIFFCo. As NIFFCo, the entity is now responsible for:
- Existing CIP functions and responsibilities including the administration of infrastructure funds.
- Partnering with agencies to deliver projects involving private finance.
- Connecting investors to relevant funds and ensuring the process for private investment in Crown projects is transparent, consistent and efficient.
