This site uses a setup that closely matches most international recommendations on access keys and conforms to the New Zealand Web Standards specifications for the use of particular keys across New Zealand Government web sites.  These are:

HTML Tables of Economic and Financial Data

The Treasury has published over 20,000 HTML tables on this site. Most HTML tables for economic and financial data, such as appear in the Budget documents and Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand, include summary attributes describing the structure of the data table, for example number of columns, rows, groups of rows, at least.  There is frequently too much data in our tables to provide a full summary of the contents of the table.

We have also adopted a convention of standardising on using heading 3 as the initial heading level inside data tables, if headings are required to aid in conveying the structure of the table. It is not possible to make the initial heading in each table follow the level heading hierarchy preceding each table.  We automate the markup for accessibility purposes of the tables, and the programs we use to convert tables to HTML cannot anticipate the preceding heading levels in the pages.

We have undertaken to use our knowledge and understanding of the ways in which different people access the Internet, to develop a web site that is clear and simple for everybody to use.

Design of this Site and Validation

We have endeavoured to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG v2.0) and the New Zealand Government's Web Standards. We have used XHTML 1.0 and CSS that conforms to specification.
