* Before 1856, the role of Colonial Treasurer incorporated both the political functions of what we call today the Minister of Finance, and the administrative functions of the Treasury. Sometime after 1856 these administrative functions came under the office of the Assistant Treasurer, which in the 1870s was renamed as the Secretary to the Treasury.
