“Out of all the places I have worked the Treasury has been the best at focusing on personal development. They are also very good at taking care of their people. I have really enjoyed that aspect of being here.”
Wellington - dubbed “the coolest little capital in the world” by Lonely Planet - is famous for its tucked-away bars, vibrant arts scene, quirky cafes, award-winning restaurants and great coffee.
Surrounded by nature and fuelled by creative energy, it’s a compact, family-friendly city where you are never far away from a beach, nature walks, a playground or a museum. Whether you're a family that likes to get outdoors or prefers art and culture, there are plenty of things to do that children and adults alike will love. And with great schools dotted in between it’s a great place to raise the kids.

“[The things I love about working at the Treasury include] The content of the work – it’s interesting and it really matters. The people – they’re intelligent and friendly and there are always great open discussions. The learning – there are so many opportunities to learn in so many ways, on so many topics.
Helping staff develop also keeps me working here. It is an absolute pleasure to see staff growing, with your support.”
At the very centre of this fabulous city is the Treasury office.
We are a stone’s throw away from the famous Beehive, home of the Executive wing of our Parliament. Lunch could be in our beautiful Botanical Gardens, or sitting staring at the waves on our fabulous waterfront. You decide. Five minutes’ walk from the office you can be at either, or it’s even a shorter distance to the shops if you prefer some retail therapy.
While our central office is in Wellington, we are open to discussing with you the possibility of working from elsewhere in Aotearoa.

“I think working at the Treasury is really rewarding. When I moved to New Zealand, I got given some cool opportunities but at the same time I was aware there's also structural inequities. I think that is why I wanted to work in the public service, because I wanted more people to have the chance to do what they wanted to do.”
