Intern opportunities

Check back in July 2023 to apply for the 2023-2024 Summer Intern Programme.

Are you ready to be part of a programme that builds your future career capability?

  • Are you forward-thinking, inquisitive, and eager to learn?
  • Do you share our vision of higher living standards for all New Zealanders?
  • Are you excited by the idea of working behind the scenes to learn how government policy is made?

Su’a Thomsen (Treasury) and Pacifica intern Zsontell Teu with Cabinet Minister Carmel Sepuloni

Embark on a career in the heart of government in a stimulating and supportive environment. Our 12-week intern programme will give you a unique insight into the public sector.

You will enjoy a specially designed programme from mid-November until early February, while working in one of our technical teams on a project or workplan that hones your research, analytical and organisational skills. Just like our graduates do on their programme, you will get first-hand experience and exposure to what we do, and how we do it, while developing yourself personally and professionally.

We are committed to employing people who represent the New Zealand community we serve, so we look for interns from a wide range of academic, cultural, and social backgrounds.

We are looking for interns who can progress the small details of a day-to-day role, while remaining focused on the big picture – raising living standards for all New Zealanders.

Sound like you? Then think about applying for next Summer.

The Treasury is also involved in cross-government internships including the Tupu Tai Pasifika Public Sector Summer Internship Programme. We encourage you to explore those opportunities too.
