Treasury provides advice to the government on a range of issues that influence the links between New Zealand's economy and the rest of the world.
The Treasury's Role
The Treasury’s international work includes providing advice on external policy, including international trade and investment, New Zealand's participation in international financial institutions, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and other factors influencing the links between our economy and the rest of the world.
Work on international issues at Treasury focuses on the impact of the global environment on New Zealand's economic and financial policy settings, with a particular interest in the facilitation of economic growth. Related responsibilities include policy work on trans-Tasman single economic markets issues, the Treasury's input into trade agreements and aid issues, regulatory frameworks related to inward foreign investment and issues related to the Foreign Affairs and Trade and Official Development Assistance votes. Treasury also leads New Zealand’s APEC economic representation and manages New Zealand’s relationship with international financial institutions.
