Government releases an Expression of Interest Invitation for social housing transfer in Christchurch

Page updated 10 April 2017

The Government has released an Expression of Interest Invitation (EOI Invitation) for the transfer of up to 2,500 Housing New Zealand (HNZ) properties and tenancies in Christchurch to a registered Community Housing Provider.

The Government is seeking a provider who can bring fresh thinking to how tenants are supported, and how properties are managed and reconfigured to better match demand.

The transfer is part of the Government’s Social Housing Reform Programme aimed at improving social housing for those most in need.

Any properties transferred will remain in social housing. While the ownership of the social houses may change, nothing changes for the tenants. Their rent remains the same, as do their rights, and they remain eligible for social housing for the duration of their need.

Participants need to submit their EOI response by the 22 May 2017 deadline in order to be considered for shortlisting for the next phase, Requests for Proposal.

The EOI Invitation can be accessed by registering on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS) and going to
