Monitoring of Crown Entities by Departments
Page updated 23 Nov 2007
Overview of information relating to the monitoring of Crown entities by departments, including links to guidance developed by central agencies.
A number of departments support Ministers responsible for Crown entities by monitoring the performance of Crown entities. This monitoring covers both the funding provided by the Crown to the Crown entity, the financial interest the Crown has as owner, short-term performance, as well as the exercise of any statutory powers by the Crown entity.
Central Agency Guidance
Treasury has worked with the State Services Commission (SSC) to develop guidance for departments that support Ministers in their roles and responsibilities in relation to Crown entities. It is part of a set of advice developed by central agencies to help responsible Ministers, their departments, and boards to improve the performance of Crown entities under the Crown Entities Act 2004.
This guidance is available on the SSC web site:
This guidance should be read together with Cabinet Office Circular CO (06) 05 of 22 August 2006: Ministers' Roles and Responsibilities in Relation to Crown Entities
