Monthly Economic Indicators February 2012

Page updated 5 Mar 2012

Treasury’s latest set of economic forecasts, released  in support of the Government’s Budget Policy Statement (BPS) in mid-February, presented a weaker outlook than that contained in the Pre-election Economic and Fiscal Update (PREFU) released last October. This month’s MEI reviews the latest economic developments in light of our revised forecasts. On balance, we remain comfortable with our forecast of solid, albeit unspectacular, GDP growth in the December quarter, and expect activity to remain relatively weak throughout the first part of this year. Growth is expected to pick up from the middle of the year.
