New Zealand's economic outlook has weakened since the Pre-election Economic and Fiscal Update (PREFU) forecasts were finalised in September last year, mainly as a result of the escalation of the euro area sovereign debt crisis and its impact on the rest of the world. This MEI outlines how the New Zealand economy has performed largely in line with our PREFU forecasts to date and how the global outlook has changed. A revised set of forecasts will be released as part of the Budget Policy Statement on 16 February.
