Overseas Investment Amendment Regulations: Implementing the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement Information Release

In October 2016 the Treasury released documents related to draft regulations intended to ensure compliance with the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement and other international trade agreements.

The Government invited submissions on draft Regulations to implement higher investment screening thresholds for overseas investments in significant business assets. This change was in order to comply with New Zealand’s obligations under the investment chapter of the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement and other related existing international trade agreements.

Further information on the Trans-Pacific Partnership can be found on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade's website: Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).

A consultation document and draft Regulations are at the links below.

Submissions were sought by a deadline of 18 November 2016.
