Financial Statements Lock-up for Media and Analysts on 10 October 2007

The government’s financial statements for the 2006/07 year will be published on the Treasury’s website at 12.30 pm on Wednesday 10 October 2007. They will be the last government financial statements prepared in accordance with so-called “Old GAAP” – because for periods from 1 July 2007, the government’s financial statements must be prepared in accordance with New Zealand equivalents to International Financial Reporting Standards (NZ IFRS, or “New GAAP”).

The Treasury will host a lock-up for interested reporters and analysts from 11.00 am until approximately 12.30 pm on 10 October, at its premises on the fifth floor of No. 1 The Terrace, Wellington.

Treasury officials will provide a brief overview of the 2006/07 financial statements, and reporters and analysts will have an opportunity to ask questions and clarify technical matters. The Hon Dr Michael Cullen, Minister of Finance, will address the lock-up at approximately 12 noon.

Reporters and analysts will be asked to remain at the lock-up until after Dr Cullen’s address, at approximately 12.30 pm, and the embargo on the financial statements will be lifted at that time. The financial statements will be released on the Treasury’s website at http://www.treasury.govt.nz/financialstatements/year/jun07/ at 12.30 pm, and then tabled in Parliament.

Compliance with the embargo provisions will be monitored. Any organisation found to break embargo provisions may be refused permission to attend future lock-ups.

Please RSVP by 5pm on Friday 5 October by email to [email protected], advising the name and organisation of the persons attending.
