Transition to June Year Data in Treasury Economic and Fiscal Updates

In previous Economic and Fiscal Updates released by the Treasury, we have presented data referencing a mixture of time periods in our documents, generally presenting the economic data and forecasts in March years and the fiscal numbers in June years. We wish to advise our users that in order to provide greater clarity and consistency within our updates, from Budget 2016, the Treasury's Economic and Fiscal Update documents will generally reference June years for both economic and fiscal numbers in the main body of the document. This change will also be reflected in other Budget documents where relevant.

We appreciate some users look for March year numbers for comparability with other data sources and previous forecasts for their analysis, therefore we will also provide March year figures in the Budget Economic and Fiscal Update for 2016. This information is published on the Treasury website and copies will be available at the Budget lock-up for those attending.

We welcome your feedback on this adjustment to our Economic and Fiscal Updates and any other aspects of Treasury releases. Media and analysts attending the Budget 2016 lock-up on 26 May will have the opportunity to attend a technical briefing by the Treasury prior to Budget day, where we can answer any questions you might have about this change and other aspects of Budget documentation.
