Biography
Lead Economist in the Development Research Group at the World Bank, and was previously assistant professor of economics at Stanford University. He is a New Zealander by birth, obtaining his undergraduate degrees in economics and statistics from the University of Auckland, before going to Yale University for his Ph.D. in economics. He has worked on a wide range of topics, including brain drain and Pacific migration to New Zealand, policies to grow microenterprises in the developing world, the impact of management training, financial literacy training, and impact evaluation methodology. He writes a weekly column on impact evaluation for the World Bank's Development Impact blog, and is considered one of the leading researchers globally doing randomized experiments with firms.
