Professor Mason Durie
Massey University
Mason Durie is from Rangitane, Ngāti Kauwhata, and Ngāti Raukawa. He attended Te Aute College and graduated in medicine from the University of Otago before completing specialist training in Psychiatry at McGill University, Montreal. Following a period as Director of Psychiatry at Palmerston North Hospital, and as a Commissioner on the Royal Commission on Social Policy from 1986 until 1988, he was appointed to the chair in Māori Studies at Massey University. He is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Māori) and Professor of Māori Research and Development at Massey University. In 2004 he was appointed as a Commissioner to the New Zealand Families Commission.
He has served on a number of community and statutory health organisations including the National Health Committee (Chair), Mental Health Foundation, Alcohol Advisory Council and the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Māori Health.
His academic and research interests cover Māori health, education, policy and workforce development.
Abstract
Three levels of outcome measurements relevant to Māori will be discussed in a Powerpoint presentation. The three levels are: individual, whānau and national.
