Regulatory Impact Statements Information Release

Page updated 22 Nov 2017

On 30 June 2017 Cabinet changed the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) requirements, including the form in which Regulatory Impact Analysis is published. Already published Regulatory Impact Statements (RISs) and those prepared following the old template will be published and retained here. See the all new-style Regulatory Impact Assessments.

To help ensure that the regulatory process is open and transparent, RISs prepared to support the consideration of regulatory proposals are published at the time the relevant bill is introduced to Parliament or the regulation is gazetted, or at the time of Ministerial release.

The RISs are published on the responsible department's website, and here on the Treasury website.

A RIS provides a high-level summary of the problem being addressed, the options and their associated costs and benefits, the consultation undertaken, and the proposed arrangements for implementation and review.

To publish a RIS or RIA on the Treasury website, please complete the Publication Form and email it to the Regulatory Quality Team at:

A news feed is now available for RISs, allowing you to subscribe to receive notification when RISs are added to this website:
