The Treasury produces material that may be of interest to economic and financial analysts on topics ranging from the New Zealand economy to Budgets, forecasts, the long-term fiscal position and the Financial Statements of the Government.

New Zealand Economy

  • New Zealand Economic and Financial Overview - A comprehensive overview of the structure and performance of the New Zealand economy. The chapter titled The Economy of New Zealand: Overview is a useful summary, updated annually.
  • Monthly Economic Indicators - A regular stock-take of economic data releases prepared by the Treasury’s Macroeconomic Forecasting and Analysis team. The Monthly Economic Indicators will be of interest to those seeking a regular update on developments in the New Zealand economy.
  • New Zealand's Long Term Fiscal Position - Amendments to the Public Finance Act in 2004 mean the Treasury is now required to publish regular statements on New Zealand’s long-term fiscal position, looking out at least 40 years.
  • Tax Outturn Data - A monthly tables of tax revenue and receipts from collecting departments.

Budgets and Forecasts

  • Budget 2010 - View the latest Budget documents, including the Budget Speech, Fiscal Strategy Report, Budget Economic and Fiscal Update, and estimates of appropriations for each area of Government expenditure. See also Archive of Budgets.
  • Treasury Forecasts (Economic and Fiscal Updates) - Forecasts produced by the Treasury for the New Zealand economy and the Government’s financial position, with links to current and previous forecasts.
  • Treasury's Forecasting Performance: A Head-to-Head Comparison (July 2006) - A Treasury Working Paper that compares the Treasury’s GDP and CPI forecast performance against individual private sector forecasters and major public sector institutions.
