New Zealand's Position under the Kyoto Protocol

Page updated 27 Jul 2012

The Treasury previously published regular updates of the quantum, carbon price and exchange rate data used to calculate New Zealand’s position under the Kyoto Protocol reported in the Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand.

The Ministry for the Environment now reports these figures and the underlying variables at http://www.mfe.govt.nz/issues/climate/greenhouse-gas-emissions/net-position

These figures form part of the Financial Statements published by the Treasury.

Carbon Price Information

The Ministry for the Environment estimates the carbon price to be used for the purpose of reporting in the Financial Statements of the Government of New Zealand and policy analysis. The latest information on carbon price estimates can be found at: http://www.mfe.govt.nz/issues/climate/greenhouse-gas-emissions/net-position/#pricecarbon1.

The Treasury previously estimated this carbon price. Documents relating to the historic establishment and annual revision of the price for Kyoto-compliant emission units ('carbon price') used to value New Zealand’s position under the Kyoto Protocol are located in Information Releases.
