GEN Course: Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data - Tue 12 to Fri 15 Jun at Level 5, The Treasury, 1 The Terrace
The course is aimed at practicing empirical researchers, and is expected to act as both a refresher and an extension of existing econometric skills. It covers standard techniques for panel data econometrics as well as more advanced applications. The course will take a practical approach, focusing on interpretation and testing as well as the underlying theory, and including many real-world examples.

Budget 2012 Lock-ups - Thu 24 May - 10.30am-2pm Banquet Hall, Parliament Buildings, Wellington and 12pm-2pm TVNZ, Auckland
The main Budget 2012 lock-up for media and economic and financial analysts will be held on Thursday 24 May from 10.30am at the Banquet Hall in Parliament Buildings, Wellington. A separate lock-up, limited to 20 media only, will be held at TVNZ in Auckland.

The global financial crisis has provoked a period of volatility and austerity for many governments. At the same time human societies are also facing profound structural changes in their ecological, political economic social and technological contexts. These are increasingly seen to require not just incremental adjustments, but a Copernican shift in mind-sets – including new paradigms for thinking and action about the role of the state in relation to both the private market and to civil society.
