Regulatory Review Work Programme Information Release

Page updated 28 Jun 2011

In February this year the Government has agreed to a regulatory review programme for 2009. Information and key documents that have been released are available on this page.

Regulations to be reviewed are:

  • Building Act
  • Electricity institutional arrangements
  • Election commitments around Employment Relations Act
  • Foreshore and Seabed Act
  • Holidays Act
  • Overseas Investment Act
  • Resource Management
  • Telecommunications Act
  • Weathertight Homes Resolution Services Act

This is in addition to reviews that are already underway, such as:

  • Climate Change Response Act
  • Dairy Restructuring (Raw Milk) Regulations

Terms of reference for these reviews will be agreed shortly. Reviews are expected to deliver a feasible set of options that:

  • be the minimum necessary to achieve its objectives, having assessed costs, benefits and risks;
  • be as generic and as simple as the sector allows;
  • use self-regulatory approaches where appropriate;
  • be appropriately durable, predictable and adaptable;
  • where appropriate accord with international best practice being mindful of our commitment to a single economic market with Australia;
  • minimise compliance costs imposed; and
  • aim to minimise adverse impacts on:
    • innovation and investments;
    • competition;
    • individual responsibility (with appropriate risk balance); and
    • property rights.
