The February earthquake, which has had a large cost in human and economic terms, occurred in the context of weaker domestic demand and an international backdrop of political unrest, high commodity prices and rising inflation. This month's Economic Indicators updates our outlook for the economy and presents our initial assessment of the impact of the earthquake on the New Zealand economy. These forecasts are preliminary and will be reviewed prior to Budget 2011.
