Student Summer Internships

Page updated 22 Apr 2008

The Treasury offers a number of summer internships each year to advanced undergraduate, honours and post-graduate students at New Zealand universities. These internships are offered to encourage promising scholars, introduce them to the work of the Treasury and build links with academic departments.

Details

Interns work at the Treasury over the summer holidays from around mid-November until mid-February. They are paid a salary plus their travel costs to Wellington and return from their home city.

Internship recruitment takes place alongside fulltime graduate recruitment.

We run our Graduate Recruitment Round annually, commencing in March, with applications generally closing in April. Selection processes are held over May and June with offers to successful candidates in July.

The internship programme at the Treasury is a two-way process with the following objectives:

  • For the intern: an opportunity to decide if Treasury is somewhere you want to begin your career;
  • For the Treasury: a chance to give students an extended interview as a prospective Graduate Analyst.

Each intern is assigned to work in one of the five Treasury groups. Interns are given a specific project and objectives to work on during the summer, are given the support of a buddy and team and provided with the opportunity to attend social events and get a good feel for the culture of the Treasury. Interns go through an appraisal process, and if the internship is successful, eligible interns will receive a full time job offer to join the Treasury Graduate Programme on the last day of their internship in February (contingent on passing final qualifications).

To be eligible for an internship, students need to be studying in their penultimate year.

How to Submit an Application

Applications for our Graduate Recruitment Round for 2008 have now closed. Applications received for this round will be considered for roles as either Summer Interns for 2008/2009 or Graduates to start with us by January 2009.
