Profile: Simon Gilmore - Graduate Analyst

“One of the pleasant surprises about the Treasury is that it isn’t the serious, formal organisation I thought it would be.
In fact, there is a great culture here – a great mix between the public sector goals of good work/life balance and the professionalism of the private sector. And being recruited as a Graduate Analyst has been another bonus.
It’s good having a group of people working alongside you who are sharing the same sort of experience.
One of the attractions of the Treasury was the variety of interesting work on offer and that has definitely proved to be the case. The experiences and challenges for me have ranged from writing Cabinet papers to organising cross-public sector processes, evaluating multi-million-dollar budget bids and investigating issues with significant economic consequences.
There’s also a constant exposure to a variety of senior people, organisations and issues at the Treasury. How many recent graduates get to meet the Minister of Finance in their second week of work? And I’m still getting used to having the projects I’m working on being debated in the media!”
