Overview of the Vote
The Minister of Justice is responsible for appropriations in Vote Justice for the 2011/12 financial year covering the following:
Services purchased directly from the Ministry of Justice:
- $18.457 million (4% of the Vote) on the administration of legal services
- $1.883 million (less than 1% of the Vote) on purchasing crime prevention and community safety initiatives
- $29.270 million (6% of the Vote) on purchasing policy advice
- $14.388 million (3% of the Vote) on purchasing public defence services, and
- $8.137 million (2% of the Vote) on purchasing sector leadership and support.
Services purchased through Non-departmental Output Expenses:
- $4.120 million (less than 1% of the Vote) on purchasing policy advice from the Law Commission
- $10.090 million (2% of the Vote) on Community Law Centre funding
- $8.340 million (2% of the Vote) on purchasing community crime prevention services and programmes delivered by community and local government agency providers
- $16.848 million (3.5% of the Vote) on purchasing equity promotion and protection services from the Human Rights Commission, the Independent Police Conduct Authority, the Privacy Commissioner and the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security
- $181.445 million (38% of the Vote) on purchasing legal aid services
- $21.381 million (4.5% of the Vote) on purchasing services relating to producing and maintaining electoral rolls
- $38.715 million (8% of the Vote) on purchasing services from the Electoral Commission
- $4.500 million (less than 1% of the Vote) on purchasing protective fiduciary services
- $2.855 million (less than 1% of the Vote) on purchasing electoral broadcasting services
- $6.372 million (1% of the Vote) on purchasing support for victims
- $90.165 million (19% of the Vote) on the purchase or development of assets by and for the use of the Ministry of Justice as authorised by section 24(1) of the Public Finance Act 1989, and
- $14.791 million (3% of the Vote) for other expenses to be incurred by the Crown and capital expenditure for Crown entities.
