Budget Day - 22 May 2008

The Minister of Finance, Hon Dr Michael Cullen, will deliver his ninth budget on Thursday, 22 May 2008.  Read the Minister's media statement on the Beehive website: A Budget for a sustainable, prosperous New Zealand (13 February 2008).

Analysts Lock-up and Budget Hotline

A Budget lock-up for analysts (as well as media) will be held on Thursday 22 May from 11am at the Banquet Hall in Parliament Buildings. Read the Budget 2008 Analysts' Lock-up Advisory (23 April 2008) for full details.

The Treasury will be operating a Hotline after the Budget lock-ups on Thursday 22 May and again on Friday 23 May. Read Budget 2008 - Hotline for more details.

Release of Budget Documents

Budget 2008 documents are not released on Budget Day on this page until the conclusion of the Minister of Finance's speech in the House of Representatives (usually around 2.45pm).

Budget documents may be purchased from Bennetts Bookshops on Budget Day once the embargo is lifted.  See Purchasing Budget 2008 Documents for details.

Budget Documents

Budget Policy Statement 2008
Sets out the broad strategic priorities by which the Government will be guided in preparing Budget 2008.  It is the first document relating to Budget 2008.  It was published conjointly with the Half Year Economic and Fiscal Update 2007 on 17 Dec 2007.
