University Challenge 2017

Page updated 2 Aug 2017

The Treasury is giving New Zealand university students the chance to address some of the most important public policy issues facing the country.

The Treasury University Challenge aims to:

  • Give university students a feel for the range of work the Treasury does
  • Allow students to test their analytical skills on real-life policy issues
  • Reward excellence in public policy analysis

Students are invited to enter a submission addressing one of eight pre-set questions and submit them to the Treasury. They may enter their submission in a range of formats (2,000 word essay, A3 presentation, or video).

The questions cover a wide range of social and economic policy issues, so students of any year level and discipline can enter.

The author of the best submission will receive a $2,000 grant to aid them with their studies. 2nd and 3rd placed submissions will win the authors $1,000 and $500 grants respectively, with $100 offered to the two remaining finalists.
