9 March

Competition launched

24 March

Entry forms due by 5.00 p.m.
All entry forms should be emailed to (see Entry Form on the Resources Page for details on how to enter).

April 2016

Week of
11-15 April

Regional Mentoring/Coaching
Subject to numbers of participating teams, Treasury analysts will hold mentoring/coaching sessions for participating teams, to further work through the issues with students and get teams started in assessing the option. It is recommended that students do some background reading before these sessions.

Coaching material and videos will also be provided on the Schools Challenge facebook page.

May 2016

12 May

Essays due at 5.00 p.m.
All essays should be emailed to

19 May

Finalists notified
Top teams (up to ten) will be notified and invited to present their recommendations to a panel of judges at the Treasury in Wellington.

All Teams will be given feedback on their essay’s by email.

June 2016

9 June

Presentation slides due by 5.00 p.m.
For teams invited to Wellington, presentation slides should be emailed to

17 June

Finals day in Wellington
Finalist teams will travel to Wellington to present their proposals to a panel of judges including Treasury analysts and Victoria University professors.Most travel costs are covered by The Treasury

Week of
20-24 June

Winners announced
Winning teams will be notified and posted on the Schools Challenge website and Facebook page.

July 2016


27 July

Top three teams plus Top Student Speaker. The winning teams will return to Wellington to receive their prizes, spend a day at the Treasury and other organised activities. Most travel costs are covered by The Treasury
