2013 Treasury Schools Challenge
Page updated 14 Mar 2013
The Treasury is challenging year 12 and 13 students all over the country to find ways to boost New Zealand’s long-term economic growth rate in its 2013 Schools Challenge.
The competition aims to:
- stimulate discussion and fresh debate on the Treasury’s core work
- give students an opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of a Treasury analyst and apply economic principles to real-world policy making
- encourage students to take an interest in economics and public policy as a career option.
“This year’s competition is again asking students to take on one of the big challenges New Zealand has wrestled with for years – how to achieve a sustained lift in economic growth,” Bill Moran, Acting Deputy Secretary, Growth & Public Services.
Participating teams will produce a paper setting out their proposals to address New Zealand’s long-term growth challenges. Up to 10 finalist teams will be brought to Wellington to present their policies to a judging panel of Treasury analysts and Victoria University professors.
